Nike got a tariff refund. You didn’t.
Nike reported earnings Tuesday that looked great on paper — $0.72 per share versus $0.13 expected. But $0.52 of that came from refunds on tariffs the Supreme Court struck down in late February. Those same tariffs pushed Nike to raise shoe prices $5 to $10 a pair last year — Nike is getting that money back from the government, and you’re not. A class-action lawsuit calls it a “double recovery.” The stock still dropped 11% Wednesday because the actual business is shrinking: revenue guidance calls for low-single-digit declines, and China sales fell 12%.
The other side: Nike says it absorbed most tariff costs and only made “surgical” adjustments, and the turnaround plan needs more quarters to show results.

Medicaid work requirements go live today
Starting today, Montana requires Medicaid expansion adults to log 80 hours of work or qualifying activities each month to keep their coverage. Arkansas begins sending noncompliance notices. Both states are moving months ahead of the January 2027 federal deadline. The CBO projects 5.2 million people will lose Medicaid coverage from these work rules over the next decade — if you’re on expansion Medicaid, start documenting your hours now.
The other side: The law includes a three-month grace period before disenrollment, and supporters say it connects enrollees to jobs and self-sufficiency.

July 4th traffic meets the World Cup today
AAA projects a record 72.2 million Americans will travel this week for the Fourth — 61 million by car. Add three World Cup knockout matches today in Atlanta, Seattle, and Santa Clara, including USA vs. Bosnia at 8 PM ET. If you’re driving near a host city, build in extra time. INRIX says congestion peaks Thursday through Saturday.
The other side: Gas is down to $3.85 from $4.49 a month ago, making this the cheapest July 4th fill-up since March.
